On May 31, hosted by Xi'an JD Energy Co., Ltd. and the Electrical Energy Storage Alliance (EESA), and co-sponsored by the Hunan Energy Conservation Research and Comprehensive Utilization Association and the Hunan Renewable Energy Society, the JD Energy Distributed Energy Storage 2024 Ecological Partner Conference (Hunan Session) was grandly held in Changsha.

With the theme "Trillion-Scale Energy Storage, Walking Together," the conference attracted key leaders, authoritative experts, industry elites, and representatives from numerous prominent enterprises in the energy storage sector. They converged to deliberate on the development path of commercial and industrial energy storage and jointly forge a new energy storage ecosystem. Over 600 attendees and nearly 10,000 industry professionals participated in this industry event, both online and on the spot.

Unleashing the Potential of Trillion-Scale Energy Storage

Amid the relentless pursuit of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, China's energy structure is undergoing rapid transformations, installed capacity of renewable energy is scaling rapidly, and new energy storage is increasingly emerging as a pivotal technology for constructing China's new energy and power systems. It also serves as a crucial catalyst for promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of energy production and consumption.

At the conference's opening, Du Yuanming, former Mayor of the Changsha Municipal People's Government and Honorary President of the Changsha Alumni of Central South University delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of energy issues and the positive impact of the energy storage industry's development. He expressed his aspiration for enterprises to seize opportunities and achieve remarkable successes together, positioning energy storage as a vital driver for Hunan's power system transformation and economic growth.

Du Xiaotian, Chairman of the EESA and President of the China Safety Industry Association's Energy Storage Equipment Branch, highlighted in his speech: "Due to various favorable policies and business models, commercial and industrial energy storage has witnessed significant advancements. As the first province in China to unveil a provincial-level development planning outline for a new power system, Hunan has been at the forefront of supporting energy storage development in recent years, with its economic benefits becoming increasingly prominent. It is poised to become the next highland for industrial growth."

Liu Weizeng, Founder & Chairman of JD Energy, attended the conference and delivered a speech stating: "Commercial and industrial energy storage presents RMB-trillion-level market opportunities, and Hunan's market is just emerging, offering immense potential. A good investment and profit model also requires safe and reliable products and system solutions. JD Energy's distributed energy blocks have been successfully implemented in over 400 commercial and industrial power stations. In 2023, JD Energy ranked first in the industry in shipment volume and the number of power stations for commercial and industrial energy storage. Distributed energy storage has enabled the industry to evolve from extensive to refined, and from engineering to productization, so it will inevitably represent the future development direction. JD Energy invites more like-minded individuals to join us in unlocking the wealth potential of China's commercial and industrial energy storage sector."

Collaborative Synergy for Co-creation

In recent years, commercial and industrial energy storage has experienced rapid growth, presenting immense opportunities for enterprises. During the keynote speech session, Wang Yanghongsheng, Senior Analyst of the EESA, conducted a comprehensive market analysis of China's commercial and industrial energy storage: "In 2023, China's updated installed capacity for commercial and industrial energy storage reached approximately 4.77 GWh, marking a year-on-year growth of over 200%. The market is anticipated to sustain high growth rates in the future, and more diversified profit models will propel the commercial and industrial energy storage market from its nascent stages to maturity after 2025."

Feng Zihao, an invited expert from SGCC Hunan Integrated Energy Services Co., Ltd., focused on the exploration and implementation of energy storage construction and operation, emphasizing: "The era has catalyzed the rapid development of the energy storage industry. SGCC has projected that the access scale of electrochemical energy storage will reach 100 GW by 2030. However, energy storage projects encounter risks in design, construction, operation and maintenance, safety, and other aspects, necessitating a comprehensive, professional, and standardized solution throughout the entire process."

Lou Lizheng, Chairman of Beikong Intelligent Cloud Technology Co., Ltd., analyzed the development tendency of energy storage in Hunan based on local conditions: The power supply and demand situation in Hunan has placed considerable strain on grid regulation, necessitating more adaptable power sources for peak cut and enhancing grid peak-shaving capabilities. Consequently, the development of energy storage solutions has become a matter of urgency. In 2023, Hunan achieved a newly installed energy storage capacity of 2.03 million kW, ranking second nationwide behind Shandong. Additionally, Hunan boasts one of the highest peak-valley electricity price differences in the country, coupled with the decreasing costs of energy storage batteries, which will fuel the rapid development of commercial and industrial energy storage.

Feng Zhuowen, Chief Engineer of Hunan Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech titled "Revisiting the Advantages of the Modular Technical Route," emphasizing: The integration of key components such as battery packs, power conversion systems (PCS), battery management systems (BMS), and energy management systems (EMS) through practical solutions to maximize system economic efficiency and safety has emerged as the industry's guiding principle. Compared to centralized and collecting-distributed solutions, distributed modular solutions are better suited for commercial and industrial user side.

Zhang Yi, General Manager of JD Energy's Product and R&D Center, introduced JD Energy's distributed energy storage solutions and product roadmap, stating that JD Energy adheres to a consistent product, system, and values perspective. By enhancing system efficiency and energy storage and discharge capabilities, JD Energy achieves the lowest levelized cost of storage (LCOS) and maximizes customer value. JD Energy pioneers the All-in-One distributed modular products for user side, offering unparalleled safety, economic efficiency, intelligent operation and maintenance, and other advantages. The company has successfully assisted over 400 commercial and industrial users nationwide in their energy transition journey.
